How to Submit a Claim

Everything you need to claim your GroupSource benefits, from having your provider bill directly to submitting receipts yourself in myGroupSource.

Before you start

A few minutes of setup makes every claim faster.

1
Sign in to myGroupSource
Go to www.mygroupsource.ca on your computer, or download the free myGroupSource app from Google Play or the Apple App Store (look for the blue GS icon). Use the username and temporary password from your welcome letter or email.
2
Set a new password
You'll be asked to change your temporary password the first time you sign in.
3
Add your banking information
Under My Claims → Banking Information, add your direct deposit details so reimbursements go straight to your bank account.
Same steps, any device. Claims work the same way on the website and in the app.

Three ways to claim

Pick the method that fits how you paid and what you're claiming.

Pay Direct

Let your provider submit the claim for you. You only pay what your plan doesn't cover.

1
Show your benefits card
Show your GroupSource benefits card to your provider. The digital card is in the myGroupSource app under My Benefits → Benefit Card, and it works even when you're travelling without data.
2
Your provider bills GroupSource
The provider submits the claim electronically through the TELUS Health eClaims network and it's processed in real time.
3
Pay any remaining balance
The eligible amount is billed directly to GroupSource. You pay the provider for anything your plan doesn't cover.

Where you can use Pay Direct

Pharmacies (prescription drugs)
Dental offices (routine dental procedures)
Health care practitioners and optometrists (paramedical and vision care)
Not every provider offers direct billing. It's up to each provider whether to join the TELUS Health eClaims network. If yours isn't set up, you can share our eClaims provider guide with them, or submit the claim yourself with Quick Pay or Quick Submit.

Quick Pay

The fastest way to get reimbursed when you've paid out of pocket. You enter the details from your receipt, so there's nothing to upload.

1
Start a claim
Sign in, go to My Claims and select Submit Claim.
2
Choose the benefit type
Select Dental, HSA, Medical, Prescription Drugs, Vision Care or Wellness.
3
Answer two quick questions
Tell us whether the claim is the result of a workplace accident, and whether your Health Spending Account (if you have one) should pay any amount your core plan doesn't cover.
4
Select your provider
Choose from your recent providers, or use Search for Service Provider.
5
Enter the claim details and submit
Fill in the service date, patient, claim type, service and amount from your receipt. If another plan (such as a spouse's) has already paid part of the claim, enter that as the COB amount.

Use Quick Pay when

You want the quickest reimbursement
You're claiming vision care or paramedical services, like massage, physiotherapy or chiropractic
You have specific details to include with your claim
When you'll be paid
1–2 business days after your claim shows "Paid," depending on your bank
Receipts
Not uploaded, but keep them in case of an audit
About random audits. Because no receipts are submitted, Quick Pay claims may be selected for a random audit. If yours is, the claim will show Receipts Required and you'll need to upload your paid invoice and any supporting documents from any device. Audits are completed within 5–10 business days of your upload.

Quick Submit

Making a claim is as quick as taking a photo. A claims adjudicator reviews your receipt, so it takes a little longer to process.

1
Start a claim
Sign in, go to My Claims → Submit Claim, and answer the same first questions as Quick Pay: benefit type, workplace accident and HSA.
2
Tap the camera icon
On the Select Service Provider screen, tap Need Help? Submit a Photo at the bottom of the screen.
3
Add your receipt
Select Add Image, then take a photo or upload an image of your paid invoice and any supporting documents.
4
Submit
Select Done to send your claim for review.

Use Quick Submit when

You want the quickest way to send in a claim
You have several receipts to submit
You're on the go with your phone or tablet
You're submitting any type of claim
When you'll be paid
2–3 business days after GroupSource receives your claim, depending on your bank
Processing order
Claims are reviewed in the order they're received

Other ways to submit

Paper claim forms are available in myGroupSource under My Benefits → Forms and Booklets.

By mail
Mail a completed claim form with your original receipts to GroupSource's Calgary claims office. Any type of claim can be sent this way.
Processed within 2–3 business days of receipt
By fax or email
Only for basic dental claims that don't need X-rays, and for health and dental pre-authorizations. Send a completed claim form.
Processed within 1–2 business days of receipt

Check on your claim

Go to My Claims → My Claims History to see a summary of all your claim activity.

Filter by time period, benefit category, claimant name or claim status (Paid, Pending and so on)
Select View Results to download a PDF of your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statement

Important reminders

Some claims need a little extra before you buy or book.

Expenses over $500
If an expense is likely to be more than $500, submit a detailed treatment plan for pre-authorization before treatment starts. Emergency treatment is the exception.
CPAP machines
These must be pre-approved before you buy one.
Orthotics and orthopaedic shoes
A gait analysis and biomechanical exam by a qualified professional is needed first to confirm eligibility.
Diabetic supplies
Except for insulin, pay for these yourself and then submit a claim. They can't be purchased with your drug card.
